Did you ever wonder where all the nearly 14,000 USFS Recreational Residence Cabins are located across the United States? Wonder no more! Ed Leonhardt (Cabin 39), as a member of the NFH Technology Committee, worked with National Forest Homeowners to create a clever, informative, interactive map showing where all the National Forests, USFS Tracts, and Cabin Associations are located. Many of you SWS families may have already seen this map, since it was recently publicized in a National Forest Homeowners Newsletter. Here are a few comments from NFH readers:
"This is the coolest map ever made since Waldseemüller’s in 1507 first used the term America. And it is more accurate!" —Brian G, cabin in Prescott NF
"This is GREAT!" —Dave H, cabin in Chippewa NF
"I will definitely be talking about it on August 6 at the HLA meeting." —Linda B, cabin in Sierra NF
"Nice work & thanks for sharing the impressive Interactive Cabin map! I briefly took a look and it immediately answered so many questions that I have regarding our region." —Pem E, cabin in Medicine Bow-Routt NF
"It’s a fantastic new feature/benefit on the NFH website to share with cabin owners" —Desiree L, cabin in Shasta-Trinity NF
"This is wonderful! Thanks!" —Sharon K, cabin in Umpqua NF
"This is a wonderful map! There have been times when I could have used some of this information to share with others, but it was not as easy to find as using this new resource. It will definitely be a time saver and a good tool for cabin owners to better familiarize themselves with the scope of the cabin program." —Gerald P, cabin in Chequamegon-Nicolet NF
Those of us in the Southwest Shore already know about Ed’s technological skills, since he has provided all of us with his bird’s eye CabinCam and weather station for many years. Thanks, Ed, for all your good work!
