The brush clearance and dead tree removal project from last year was put on hold because the Forest Service shut down the San Bernardino National Forest (SBNF) to all chainsaws and chippers last summer and fall due to high fire hazard conditions. Our current contractor, Steve Porter, has advised that he will not be able to perform the dead-tree removal and brush chipping until late August, due to the inability to hire enough workers.
Because of the ongoing and increasing threat of fire in our area, it remains extremely important for all cabin owners to diligently perform brush and fire fuel clearance for up to 100’ from the cabin structure, including clearing small, nuisance trees, thinning large shrubs, and pruning lower tree branches. For further clarification about which trees and brush to remove, please read “Brush and Tree Removal Protocols” on our website.
Please put your brush and tree debris in existing brush piles, where possible. If you need to start a new brush pile, make the location easily accessible, and contact Dennis Moran (Cabin 84) so he can add the pile location to his map for the contractor.
