In 2009, an NFH Economic Benefit Survey demonstrated to Congress strong evidence of the value of the Recreation Residence Program. The Survey results helped gain legislative support for passage of the Cabin Fee Act. A similar 2021 Economic Survey is again needed to educate and favorably influence the current decision-makers in the Forest Service, in Congress, and at local agencies about the importance of continuing and strengthening the USFS Recreation Residence Program.
Across the United States, there are close to 14,000 Cabins in the USFS Recreation Residence program. Many studies have been done and articles written that document the economic benefits of recreational activities on Forest Service lands. However, to gain ongoing, meaningful legislative and budgetary support to preserve the Cabin Program, we need to continually demonstrate the benefits that cabin owners, families, and guests bring to the local economies where the cabin tracts are located.
Please follow this link to open a preview copy of the 2021 Economic Benefit Survey. This Survey Copy will help you prepare your answers to the same questions you will find in the Online Survey. When you are ready to take the Online Survey, click the button below, which will take you to the Survey Portal on the NFH website.
Note that you do NOT have to be an NFH Member to take this survey. NFH encourages responses from ALL cabin owners. The more economic impact that cabin owners can demonstrate, the stronger the argument in favor of preserving and strengthening the Recreation Residence Cabin Program. We can all help each other by completing this survey promptly. Please do it now!
