So far we have not heard of any major damage in our Southwest Shore Colony from the recent storm. A report and video from the Sheriff's Department indicated that Highway 18 was "closed from Boulder Bay Park to Big Bear Dam due to Highway 18 washing away with a flooded waterfall." Here is the link to the video above:

The video looks like the water flow might have been near the Castle Rock Trailhead. However, Dick Fisher did some additional followup and learned that the water flow may actually have been a tributary of Kidd Creek, closer to the dam, as Dick describes below:
"I believe (but cannot be absolutely certain) that this is a seasonal tributary to Kidd Creek, flowing south of (and quite close to) the Doug Large cabin, roughly 1/4 mile from Dam. The white upright pipe standing on the uphill side of the highway just to right of the flow appears to be our Treasure Island Water Co. pipeline (shut down for winter). Assuming that is so, the main channel of Kidd Creek would also be running (out of this picture) quite hard through its big culvert under the highway loop turnout located some 75 yards off-screen to the south, at the foot of Ice Box Road.
"The two stream channels would then join right down below Large’s cabin, to form a blast of white water shooting down Kidd Creek which winds around the Fisher Cabin (and passes nearby, and just below, that cabin’s southwest corner), then heads north under the wood bridge, takes an eastward turn as a waterfall through the boulders in front of Fishers, and tumbles into Kidd Cove.
"Since Kidd Cove is dry, the Creek would now be cutting a much deeper channel through the lake-bottom sand there, and pushing thousands of yards of debris northward, adding to the delta of sand south of the island, until the Creek hits the current lake level which of course would stop its flow. It would be an exciting time to occupy either the Large Cabin or Fisher Cabin, or any other cabins nearby Kidd Creek, but probably (and hopefully) not a major threat to either structure.
"One reservation: This tributary also, I believe, would be flowing nearby some of the Ice Box Lane cabins located above this view, and I am not familiar enough with the topography and creek-bed location up there to comment on any risk that may be posed to those cabins."
