San Bernardino National Forest Cabin Coalition (SBNFCC)
The SBNFCC was formed in May 2004 by a group of representatives of the 17 recreational residence tracts that occupy San Bernardino National Forest land in the Big Bear area. The coalition agreed to have no officers and no dues. The organization is guided by a steering committee or board. made up of one representative from each SBNF recreation residence tract. There are 3 or 4 scheduled meetings a year, timed to get information out for annual tract meetings on holiday weekends. Forest Service representatives are invited to attend, but it is a cabin-run organization.
The organization’s purpose is as follows:
To act as an interface between the recreation residence permit holders on the San Bernardino National Forest and Forest Service management at the Forest and District levels for the purpose of:
Facilitating the cooperative management and administration of recreation residences;
Resolving issues relating to recreation residences;
Improving two-way communications between the Forest Service and the cabin community.
Note: The above information was extracted from the Minutes of the original organizational meeting in May 2004.
The SBNFCC has operated continuously since 2004, and has been instrumental in improving the communication and cooperation among the 17 Big Bear tracts, and between those tracts and the Forest Service. The original moderator was Roy Glauthier (Metcalf Tract), who continues to be the moderator as of 2021, although he is looking for someone else to take his place. See below for links to Minutes of past meetings.
